Despite being nominated twice as MCA in the county assembly, Mohamed Hatimy has also served as a minated councilor in the deceased Mombasa Municipal Council in 2013 and 2017.
He goes down as a rare breed of politician who held positions of civic leadership without fighting for any of them, right during the Kanu rule.
Hatimy was also one of the longest-serving officials of the Kenya Football Federation, having served in the soccer administration for 24 years.
Babadi was also considered to have bankrolled a number of politicians in the region and the ODM party in general.
Hatimy, who was in the mid-60s, was the chairman of the ODM in Mombasa. In some adverse circumstances at the county assembly, he had to take the place of the party to overcome and streamline the hostility between MCAs and Joho.

In 2019, the County Assembly was dissolving and sending all MCAs home in disagreement with the Executive. One such case was in 2019. He played an important role in calculating a working relationship between the House and the Executive on many occasions.
Idris Abdirahman, a former political advisor to Hassan Joho, recalled that Hatimy was a generous, trustworthy politician, not in need of Hassan Joho, not in need of oversight by the ODM as he knew what to do.
