On Wednesday night, a 26-year-old man killed his wife before killing himself. John Kuria, 20, and his wife Diana Wekesa, 20, are believed to have split up a week ago over domestic concerns before reconciling on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred in the village of Kolonget, Soy sub-county. The two are alleged to have feuded frequently. Chief Barbnabas Tireito of Matunda claimed Kuria expelled his wife from their home and tossed out all her possessions the week before, threatening her never to return. Tireito stated that Wekesa returned on Wednesday and that they had a disagreement.
He claimed the intruder strangled and suffocated his wife with a piece of cloth before slitting her throat with a kitchen knife.
“We discovered her body in a pool of blood, with a black piece of fabric tied around her neck and a kitchen knife placed alongside her,” the chief explained.
Kuria, he claimed, hanged himself after murdering his wife, and his body was discovered hanging from the rafter of the house, which had been locked from the inside. Officers from Moisbrige police station retrieved the two bodies and transported them to Kitale mortuary while inquiries into the tragedy began.
